Hi JJ,

Read section 10 of RFC 3261, it clearly states that a location service is domain specific. Also read section 4, that is the example call flow, where you will find out how different is the usage of a DNS from a Location service. As per the RFC, Location service is just an abstract service that provides address bindings for a PARTICULAR DOMAIN. It is populated through registrations.

Hi,

As per RFC 3261, a proxy/redirect server contacts location service to
determine the location of the end UAS.

Is the location service specific for the proxy/redirect server domain or is
it a global database like DNS? In this case if the URI of UAS is not in the
proxy server domain the proxy server will forward the request.

The proxy server forks a request only when it is unable to resolve the
domain name for a specific URI. Right??

If the URI is resolved by a DNS then proxy will directly route the request
to the destination proxy. In this case the Via fields will be left untouched
by the intermediate proxies if any. Is my understanding correct?

Regards,
JJ
