But what you say goes against the RFC section that i
quoted in my mail. The call flows RFC (RFC 3665) also
has an example (3.3) where it shows the ACK to duplicate

The credentials for ACK will be different from that for the INVITE. This
is because the nc value will be incremented and the method name is
different.

Hi Roman,
      It should be exactly the same as the original
INVITE - it need not be recomputed using the ACK method.
Ref Section 22.1 of the RFC:
"UACs creating an ACK message will duplicate all of
the Authorization and Proxy-Authorization header field
values that appeared in the INVITE to which the ACK
corresponds."

credentials
as the INVITE. In case of digest authentication, should those
credentials
be exactly the same as the ones in the original INVITE, or should they
