Timed Release is a POTS concept defined by Telcordia for NAR,
but common to other regions as well.
One of the basic points is that if the terminating phone hangs up
and goes off hook again within some interval (10 secs in NAR), the
call is still live (assuming the originator did not hang up).
For a SIP UA driving POTS phones, this could be achieved by having
the terminating connection delay the BYE for the interval.
The snag is that, at the same time the originating side should have
a timer going to decide when to nag the user to hang up ("Permanent
Signal Treatment" in NAR: The "If you'd like to make a call..."
recording followed by the annoying Off Hook Warning tone).
So the originating SIP UA driving POTS phones can either assume the
terminating side has delayed the BYE and immediately nag the user,
or assume the BYE was not delayed and start timing.
Has anyone handled this?
