I think that situation is common, but the standards people have not given it a great deal of thought. In practice, most UAs that can be set to have an outbound proxy send *all* requests to the outbound proxy, and results in the behavior you have described. I think that a better way for them to operate would be to send all requests outside of an existing dialog to the outbound proxy, but requests within a dialog would be sent to the first Record-Route'd host. Of course, that would require that some outbound proxies would have to Record-Route themselves when they don't now. Dale
