Yes, like Paulo said, interworking between entities must have mutual agreement about the required features. There are several means to carry DTMF(2833, INFO, KPML), each may be used in some specific cases.

You gotta check in the particular SIP phone datasheet what is (are) the supported method(s) for DTMF transport. The options, with SIP, are: Inband with RFC2833 - most SIP phones do support it as of today Outband with INFO or NOTIFY - a small number of SIP phones support either one as of today. PS: some will say that RFC2833 is *not* an inband method. It is, in my opinion. Because the RFC2833 method uses the RTP protocol, which handles *media* and not signaling. And RTP is never forwarded to SIP proxies - while SIP INFO (or NOTIFY) messages use to be routed through the proxy. Can I expect that my (typical) phone would support it? -----Original Message----- From: Peili Xu [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, October 11, 2005 8:45 PM To: Baniel Uri-CUB001; 'SIP Implementors' Cc: Kostinsky Gadi-BGK010 Subject: RE: [Sip-implementors] Support iof the SIP INFO method What`s your assumption for the function of INFO? The INFO itself does not have real functional meaning, the content of the message and the call flow related is the key. Normally, INFO is used to carry ISUP message for SIP-T. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Baniel Uri-CUB001 Sent: Wednesday, October 12, 2005 6:27 AM To: SIP Implementors Cc: Kostinsky Gadi-BGK010 Subject: [Sip-implementors] Support iof the SIP INFO method Would that be a fair assumption to make that most of the SIP phones in the market support the SIP INFO method? -uri _______________________________________________ Sip-implementors mailing list [email protected] http://lists.cs.columbia.edu/mailman/listinfo/sip-implementors _______________________________________________ Sip-implementors mailing list [email protected] http://lists.cs.columbia.edu/mailman/listinfo/sip-implementors _______________________________________________ Sip-implementors mailing list [email protected] http://lists.cs.columbia.edu/mailman/listinfo/sip-implementors _______________________________________________ Sip-implementors mailing list [email protected] http://lists.cs.columbia.edu/mailman/listinfo/sip-implementors
