> ptime is a media attribute, so it can appear once inside a media
definition (after "m line" and before another "m line"). This means that all
payloads defined for the media have the same ptime.
See RFC 2327.

That is correct per RFC 2327. However, the SDP-New draft defines a new
attribute called maxptime.

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-mmusic-sdp-new-26.txt

This can be applied to your example as following:

> m=audio 10000 RTP/AVP 0 8
> a=rtpmap: 0 PCMU/8000
> a=rtpmap: 8 PCMA/8000
> a=ptime:20
> a=maxptime:30

This doesn't exactly address what you're looking for (ptime per codec) but
can probably provide some relief.

Thanks,
Rajnish
