That is correct per RFC 2327. However, the SDP-New draft defines a new attribute called maxptime. http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-mmusic-sdp-new-26.txt This can be applied to your example as following: > m=audio 10000 RTP/AVP 0 8 > a=rtpmap: 0 PCMU/8000 > a=rtpmap: 8 PCMA/8000 > a=ptime:20 > a=maxptime:30 This doesn't exactly address what you're looking for (ptime per codec) but can probably provide some relief.
