Hi, Deployment is totally dependent on requirement. If your only requirement is to know how many calls being made the stateless can be used but if want to track complete call like duration of call and messages exchanged during active call then stateful is the only solution.
Stateless proxies are generally load balancers. Sometimes, few stateless services reside on stateful proxies also as mentioned by tarun earlier. Anyhow, to keep track of calls any existing state-full can be enhanced rather then adding new node.
