but the entire _purpose_ of PAI is to provide the identity to services
within the domain.

Has anyone looked at the freeswitch code and/or contacted the developers
to find out why it is sending that challenge?

Incidentally, getting two proxy challenges, even with the same realm and
different nonce values is totally legal, and a really good UA would
handle it.  Not that that helps us right now...
