exploring, I see that credential.xml was last updated at the same time I
pushed profiles and appears to have credentials for user 274.  The
registrations still didn't occur for about 5 minutes, but I'm not sure
there was an attempt.

Let's assume that the credentials _weren't_ there until I specifically
pushed the profiles.  If so, where did they go since yesterday?
