But that does lead to a mystery -- after all, this sort of problem has been known for decades (since I was in college), and the solution of locking an application in memory to assure rapid response has been known for decades. Surely the softphone vendor knows about this? If you've got a scenario causes this problem to show frequently, the vendor probably wants to know about it.
