I recall that some time ago having the field as read-only was definitely the 
intention and was got discussed on this mailing list 
(http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.voip.sipx.devel/19035/).  I'm not sure 
when or why this has changed to become an editable field.  The rationale at the 
time was that changing your IM ID effectively causes old IM ID account to be 
deleted from openfire and the new one created.  Account creation/modification 
has been, up to now, a privilege reserved to the administrator.  Are we ok with 
letting users change settings that will effectively affect the creation 
accounts on the system?
