I've never set-up an unmanaged SBC...  How does this work?

You use the SBC IP as the "Address" of the Umanaged Gateway, so the SBC will 
receive the INVITE.  That much I understand.

But for INVITES sipXecs send to Umanaged Gateways, the domain-part of the 
Request-URI is the sipXecs's own SIP domain, not that of the ITSP.  (Unlike a 
"direct" SIP Trunk.)

I guess the SBC must be configured to have special handling for the sipXecs SIP 
domain?  (Otherwise, the INVITE would just route back to the sipXecs?)  The SBC 
would then be configured to route the INVITE based on the user-part (dialed 
number?)  This would match and ITSP, and the INVITE would be transformed and 
forwarded accordingly? 

If so, is this a more common way of using SIP Trunks with external SBCs?
