As Al (Al Campbell at Avaya) has mentioned on the sipx-dev list about the impending change to openscs for avaya, I would like to point out I currently have had very favorable results thus far with the alternative community build hosted by eZuce.
I think things will become clear in a week or two as to where you might prefer to discuss the project or get your updates. Avaya has expressed a desire to control the messaging of their project and to control the roadmap, hence the fork from avaya to build upon sipxecs via the openscs community they are unveiling. This is my understanding from the email Al has sent out as a courtesy announcement this morning on the sipx-dev list. You might interpret this differently of course, and are fee to do so. At the same time, sipfoundry.org will continue on, with eZuce essentially "stepping in" as a sponsor, with a team of engineers who are already committing code with some nice new features. So one will be able to make a choice as it were. I have successfully updated existing sipfoundry installations using the ezuce sponsored repo with no ill side effects, and new functions to boot. I have had discussions with eZuce folks directly and they are committed to keeping sipfoundry alive and well, and opensource. This, to me, means there is more community input on the roadmap and messaging. I feel like both projects will continue on, though their branches may merge, fork and then diverge back and forth, I think it's clear to say neither entity is going away. I remember when I first found Pingtel's sipxpbx back in version 2.8 and 3.0'ish days. sipxpbx and then sipxecs has had many core changes in sponsorship... Pingtel, Bluesocket, Nortel, Avaya and now simultaneously eZuce. One thing it has always done is live and grow. Everyone has always wondered "what now" with every change in circumstances to this project. This darn thing deserves a web-soap-opera all its own, The stories behind some of these scenes are very amazing! Sponsor changes? Yes. Corporate ownership changes? Oh yeah, lots! Consternation and turmoil? YOU BET! Fear, uncertainty and doubt? Clearly! Through all of the previous changes I have always been a part of sipfoundry and it has always been there. I don't think it's going anywhere unless you do. Remember when you were a kid and missed a day at school because you were sick? When you got back to school there was a realization that the world went on without you. Just because you decide to use one project or the other, doesn't mean the other project will die. Just consider yourself "absent".
