Normally you would want to set it to auto if you were connecting to a trunk
or sip provider that specifies their protocol via DNS SRV.

With most gateways you would want to use UDP as a preferred way to connect.
Some gateways and providers don't like large header messages over udp so you
might switch to tcp.

options, ut if sipx is connecting to a device that prefers tcp, it is
