I think a smb connector would be an very handy way to address this,
not necessarily in sipx, but to be able to put in user credentials for
another system with smb and define:

user
pass
host
share<optional and helpful to also state directory in the share>

Which is how a lot of fax/copiers do things now, besides email and
ftp. This wouldn;t matter if the SMB host is windows or linux.

I don't think how the faxes are simply emailed out and disappear is
the ultimate goal. If they are going to be stored in /var/sipxdata in
the user mailstore, then the userui and voicemail ivr needs to be able
to acknowledge them. There needs to be a tiff or pdf viewer
plugin/handling added to the userui to handle them. If they were
copied after emailing to a smb share, it can be treated like a "file'.

I've just completed a crappy lexmark intregration to a customers smb
NAS, which auto syncs to the Internet via another service using a
fanciful rsync deployment. In lexmark's case, they could only send
faxes to the root of the share, but the same device could send scans
to any directory (path) on the share. How appropriately inconsistent!
To get around this we wrote a script to move them where they need to
go and theyn they autosync to the cloud provider in a few minutes.

I don't mean to sound overly simplistic, but the SMB connection is
kinda easy when I think about it (i'm not a programmer though).
Getting the sipxIvr to use it perhaps more problematic. BUT if the smb
connector is takcled, that would be a "better" way to address sipx
backups (IMO).
