Thanks, that is what I ended up doing (setting the nameservers in the "DNS" menu item after flipping DNS on). Had a little oddity with some /var/named entries being replaced (coincidentally after a "Send Profiles" - not sure that is related at all) but I am watching out and it seems that was maybe just a quirk.

What you could do here is to go to System > DNS > Unmanaged Service and enable Unmanaged DNS service option.
