We have been doing exactly this using Audiocodes FXO / FXS gateways.
Typically we set the gateways to use the T.38 protocol between the two
gateways over the LAN.

Subject: [sipx-users] fax questions

Hey guys,

I want to use our fax machine through our Patton Smartnode gateway
(PRI), and I don't think it would be very difficult to connect it with
a Cisco ATA or similar device, but wanted to get some feedback on the
best way to go about it.

Is it easiest to just plug the fax into an ATA device and give it an
extension? Will this work reliably with G7.11? Is there a better or
simpler way to accomplish this?

We only have one fax machine and we aren't looking for anything fancy,
just trying to get rid of our last POTS line and just use the PRI.

Thanks,
Matthew
