I agree that it would be awesome to show BLF in a computer app.

I was reading in the wiki again and saw something that I missed before:

(from http://sipx-wiki.calivia.com/index.php/HowTo_configure_Polycom_SoundPoint_IP_phones_with_sipX#4._Presence_Indication :)

"The Polycom phones are able to indicate presence within a pool of phones. Each phone can watch the status of a list of "buddy" phones. This can be used in a boss - secretary setup; however, My Status has to be updated manually on the phone with two exceptions: Do not disturb andin a call automatically update My Status. (This feature uses SIP/SIMPLE and should be compatible with Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger according to the Polycom manual. I have not been able to test this yet; however, different versions of Windows or MSN messenger use different protocols and therefore might or might not work. See also HowTo configure Windows Messenger with sipX)."

I believe this refers to the buddy list functionality which is briefly described in the Polycom 550 user guide. Am I reading this right that the sipX presence server will show BLF status, and that that can be viewed through the buddy list (which I'm assuming is different from assigning speed dial keys)? Does anyone have this working, and is there a limit on the size of the buddy list? Its OK if users have to go through a few menus to see BLF rather than having it on a button, and if this works, it saves the cost of getting the 650 with attendant console for everyone.

Thanks for any information.

At some point, it would be nice to see BLF incorporated in sipxui or as an app, until then a phone with the best 'real' estate is the better option. I tend to lean toward 650/670 phones as the screen area gives you the best 'real estate' deal. The sidecars add a lot of punch, but it does get pricey. It doesn't matter whose pbx you put behind it, the visual indication behaves similar on all of them. We have one 650 with 3 sidecars on it, but are looking to swap that out for a desktop application one day.

Remember you can put hundreds of speedials on it, but the BLF means it has to map to a button, and if the button isn;t there, it's just a speeddial.

Hello,

I apologize if this message comes through twice; I lost my wifi
connection while the first was sending, and I don't think it made it
through.

I am planning on replacing our aging Avaya Partner system with one
based on sipXecs and the Polycom 550 phones. I have read the sipXecs
wiki, the Polycom manuals, and some google searches, but I still have
some questions regarding BLF. I understand that I can assign
extensions to speed-dial, and that they will appear on available line
keys. Is it possible to have more speed-dials with BLF than line-keys
(without purchasing the attendant console)?

A - No. You can put them on there but the BLF requires a dedicated
line button, because BLF also associates a colored light with the BLF.

Ex: 2 Lines on phone, plus 2 extensions with BLF. As long as you
dont go over 4 lines. Speedial you can enter as many as you want.
Alternately thr 650/670 models have 6 lines and an associated 14
line sidecar.

This is for a small office
with 10 extensions. No one has a direct line, and everyone
participates in answering phone calls, so it needs to be easy to
determine if another employee is currently on the phone or has DND
set. With our current system, every phone has about 20 or so
programmable keys which are used to show the status of every
extension.

Does the LCD have an interface to view more speed-dials with BLF? Or
can BLF be shown in a corporate directory or buddy list? Or is my only
option to buy an attendant console for every phone?

Thank you for all help in clearing this up for me.
