I agree. I think its perception of using internet or internet like
technologies in comparison to how users have been inundated the
requirement to run firewalls, anti-virus, anti-spam, and trogon scanning
software to keep unscrupulous at bay. Almost everyone has been bitten
once, ("I love you", Nimda etc..) Weather we like it or not, VOIP is in
the same arena of perception. End-to-end encryption seams to adequately
deal with these concerns for most. A good example of this is the
successes of RIM and their enterprise server which provides end-to-end
encryption over the internet.

It is curious, but in practice people seem to rarely be concerned about
the security of TDM or POTS systems, whereas VoIP security is considered
significant.
