We have seen this with several ITSP's

Most will increase the hop count if you request to do so. You can also
decrease the hops by forwarding to the real account name rather than to an
alias.

When a call comes in from an ITSP, via sipXbridge, who sets the Max-Forwards
header in the SIP messages? Does sipXbridge merely decrement what is originally
received from the ITSP, or does it set a new number on its own?

Per logs, sipXbridge's first INVITE has Max-Forwards=8. When forwarding is set
on the phone to another extension, our incoming calls from ITSP run out of hops
with "483 Too many hops". Is it because the ITSP sent the call in with
Max-Forwards=9?

This problem doesn't happen when the forwarding is set on sipX rather than on
the phone because it cuts out a few hops. I know there is an advice on the wiki
not to use phone based forwards. But users find it a lot quicker to initiate
internal forwarding on the phone than to go to their sipx web page.

Thanks
