Two problems with that....

1. It makes the phonebooks on the Polycoms difficult to use if there
are too many entries

2. I don't know all of the possible "non-primary" phone numbers for all
of my Customers.

And the person that answers the phone is not the person that can add
entries to the phonebook, so it's hard to get around #2 by entering them
on a case-by-case basis.

An other option might be to use the directory in the polycom's -- it
will convert the number to a speed dial (or regular) directory entry and
display that info when the phone rings. With 4.0.4 you can also hack up
some .vm files in sipxecs and make distinctive rings on the polycoms
(based on the caller number). The downside is the directory support in
sipxecs is confusing (the only way I've found to create a phone book is
by importing it from gmail, in 4.0.4 the .VCS thing didn't work for me
at all) and doesn't directly support any polycom features. You can
inject XML straight into your polycom config files (unmanaged by
sipxecs) to get around some of the limitations short term.

It appears that for incoming calls, our ITSP will only deliver SDMF to
us.

Do some other providers supply MDMF? Since calls often come from our
Customers' non-primary phone numbers (which are not in our phone
directory), the SDMF caller ID is proving to be of limited usefulness to
any of us that can't memorize more than 20 phone numbers.

Not enough of a problem to warrant changing ITSPs, but if we end up
changing for other reasons it might be something we would look for in
our next ITSP.

Is it possible to get Sipx to send both the caller's phone number as

To say it another way, is there a way that Sipx can send the phone
number (DID) in a way that it will be recognized as such by the ITSP and
then transmitted properly across the PSTN such that normal land/cell
phones will recognize it as the callback number?

I realize I will likely have to work this out with my ITSP, but can you
tell me what Sipx can do from its side?

Thanks,

Jeff

You would need your ITSP to do this or become responsible for your own
911 database, which is complex and problematic if you have it wrong and
get fined.

Sipx can send its own CNAM and subscriber line info when calling another
system directly via sip, and bypassing the telco or an itsp altogther,
but that's really it.

Search the archives for 911 CNAM and you'll find a lot of information on
it.
