Shared allows it to be used by multiple Groups, or non-shared you specify
the group that uses it. As an example - if you want a set of trunks to be
used by a specific department, you put all of their phones into one group,
make the gateway non-shared, and assign it to that group. They are the only
ones that can use that group for outgoing calls.

Subject: [sipx-users] 'Shared' Gateway

Hello,

Just a question. What exactly does the "Shared" box on the gateway
configuration do?

My instinct tells me that that the dial plan would work like this: It will
read through the list of gateways to find the first hit where the location
matches, or the location is set to "all". If none is found or available, a
second pass will look for a "shared" gateway where the location doesn't
match.

Is this correct? I guess another way to put this would be, "Would a higher
priority shared gateway with a location that doesn't match be used over a
lower priority gateway where the location does match?".

Thank You,
