We are having a problem with Cisco ATA 186 and a credit card terminal. We're using sipXbridge to terminate a sip trunk from the carrier. It takes about ten attempts to get a card to swipe. Faxes work properly, however.

a CC terminal communicates via modem, you take digital signals (the data) convert to analog (the modem), its SORTA voice (you better be using G.711 ). then sip takes the analog back to digital, then at the other end, back again

Delays, data loss, anything can mess it up.

eg: don't use modems through a sip trunk. use through a pstn only.

if you MUST, drop the cc terminal to 1200 baud.
