3 things.

1. Far end does not need anything forwarded.
2. You need to provision the phone remotely via ftp (best choice) or tftp.
Set the public ip of the sipx system in its server menu and make sure the
port is forwarded at the sipx side.
3. Don't uise above 3.1.3RevC on a remote deployment! Ypu have been warned.

Subject: [sipx-users] Polycom IP 430 won't register remotely

I already posted this on the forum, but haven't gotten any replies yet. I
know i'm not supposed to send to the list as well, but i'm not sure if it
got sent out. Now that i'm aware of the list i'll use this from now on.

Good evening all,

I am working with sipX 4.2. I set this up about 2 months ago I believe.
Everything has been working fine in the main office. Incoming calls,
outgoing calls, internal calls...all that good stuff. All phones are Polycom
Soundpoint IP 430 (v3.2.3).

Now i'm trying to set up two more 430s at a remote location. I connected the
phones to the main office LAN for provisioning. They were configured exactly
the same as the other phones except that for these phones I filled in the
outgoing proxy information. Once configured, the phones worked as expected
in the main office. When I brought the phones to the remote office, I hoped
they would just plug and play. I should have known better.

All configuration on the sipX is correct. NAT traversal is enabled and the
server is behind a NAT as well, with that check box selected. Internet
calling is disabled and the local subnet and domain are specified.
sipXbridge is in use. Ports on the near-end firewall are being forwarded as
required (5060, 30000-31000). SIP ALG is off and the firewall is not
equipped with SPI. Near-end is an Actiontec MI424-WR router through Verizon
FiOS. Far-end is a Westell G90-610015-20 ADSL2 modem (SIP ALG also off and
no SPI present).

I setup x-lite softphone on my laptop at the remote site. It registers with
no problem. I was able to make an outgoing call and also call the IVR with
no problems. I had someone call me from the main office and there were no
problems there either.

So it would appear to me that there is some sort of configuration issue in
the Polycom 430 that is escaping me. Any guidance would be IMMENSELY
appreciated.

Thanks

-Gary
