sipx uses FSreeswitch for media services. That might be as close as they
come to being similar.

Asterisk is also a proxy server. sipXecs is also a proxy server. They are
similar in that they are both proxies but in general the code base is
something that was not forked from asterisk (or vice versa), they are both
mammals from different continents with a completely different genetic
makeup.
