That netgear is an abomination. You'll find buffalo and some others have
some models you can put an opensource os on and are fully configurable.

In this case, a simple PAP2 ATA would fulfill the requirement. Putting it
directly on his provider DLS model works fine but as soon as we connect it
to his netgear, audio and two way calling works but incoming calls don't
ring, they just go direct to VM after the two rings we have his account set
to.

Turning spi off on the netgear and even adding port forwards didn't change a
thing.
At this point, he's getting a two port ATA/Router in between his provider
and netgear so that we're done with it.

These things are the only ones I know about right now, the Linksys RTP300-NA
and the Linksys RT31P2-NA.
I need to find a low cost, reliable ATA/Router or even better,
ATA/Passthrough device with DHCP or something.

Thanks for the input, confirms we should not spend too much time on these
problems.
