I'm sure this was because the system was 4.0.4 and upgraded to 4.2.0 then 4.2.1. The CentOS-Base.repo fixed my upgrade problem but the mirrors didn't work (had to use the baseurl) and the "$releasever" inside the file had to be changed to "5" in all cases. Don't really understand the last one. Seen it many times but sometimes $releasever works. If you know why, let me know otherwise "oh well". Thanks Keith
