meaning the proxy needs a response code like busy to force it to use a secondary gateway. siptrinks in sipxbridge don't do this as far as I recall.
there'd are some cdr improvements being made but none that I know that involved adding the gateway. one mentions the dialplan being recorded. realize the current improvement is aimed at proper vacuuming of the db which would be a ceiticala first step before addition g additionally data to the cdr database. you might bring it up on the dev list to see if it is as complicated a beast as it used to be.
