When I first went live with my sipxecs 4.4 system I ran into a similar sounding problem. Everything would be fine for a while, then the java would max out the CPU. When I noticed it happen on my system I couldn't connect to voicemail. I disabled openfire on a whim and haven't had the problem since. I have not re-enabled openfire since I don't need it currently.
