In a "normal business environment" it wouldn't be difficult to get the ISP
to agree to allow a server to send email out or expect it to be allowed.
Mostly it would have to do with your own SPF records being setup to
specifically allow inbound mail to your server(s) to be delivered by your
sipx system no matter where your mail is. I think this is a little
different, since it might be a home installation.

I'll agree sendmail is difficult, but am sure it is doable to use smtp-auth
to send mail out too.

I'll also point out that certain webhosts (1and1, etc.) do not have proper
DNS hosting to allow SRV records and the like. You will also find that not
all ITSP's are equal in the support or ability to support certain features
with sipx, hence the compatibility list on the wiki.

Also, when trying to install a package without the repo installed, you can
always get it via the URL (webmin, etc.) or winscp it over and install it
manually. All of this is linux related stuff, and s not always easy for the
Windows or GUI only user.

In the meantime, I see the follwoing link that has what I would consider
excellent instructions for what you are trying to do:

Good luck!

I'd use caution. If you are trying to send from sendmail via gmail, you
might need to configure STARTTLS for sendmail, which means you need to
either issue certificates or use the existing ones. I would imagine if you
issued them, it could cripple sipx since that might interfere with its own.

Does the ISP you use not have a magic host you could use instead? The ISP
blocks sending email?

I believe a few on the list are using Gmail or Google Apps. Any success
setting up Gmail for SMTP gateway to sipXecs and any pearls of wisdom for
setting it up?
