You are entitled to your opinion. In the meantime, be a little creative and setup a separate account for yourself in sipx and in the unified messaging put in your fax extension and did stuff on your secondary account.
If the DID number passes directly from the gateway to sipxivr it will work. There does not need to be any phone subscribed, nor any user alias, just the fax DID on the UM screen. If it is going to exchange first, it is negotiation tcp. t.38 "does_not_work" over tcp. So now you must make sure exchange can allow renegotiating sdp as a result of a transfer. Good luck with that nonsense. Exchange UM server does not work well with almost ANY other system because it is MS's intention to keep this proprietary. When they removed some functionality from IMAP, who screamed the loudest? Cisco? Why? Ask Redmond.
