do you have something from counterpath saying they support SRV? i would re-read paul's last post about SRV lookups. I would confirm this with Counterpath. I would then ask them for their provisioning datasheet in case there are additional parameters to add there. Try to see if you can do a manual xmpp only account (like gmail) without specifying hostname.
we "should" have the new provisioning "spreadsheet" from them if we need to make changes instead of aiming in the dark.
