I am very sure this thread will be helpful to others at some point. There are a
variety of ways to do this.
Since it's only 4 trunks, it's not worth the complexity of buying all sorts of
hardware.

The simplest approach seems to be 4 SIP trunks and not much else.

On the other hand, since we already have the mediant in place, it would be very
cool to put it to use in this scenario.
Problem is then it requires yet another box. Not that big a deal but worth
asking if there are things which could work on the sipx box itself.
In fact, if sipx had a built in method of connecting to say a remote pfsense
firewall via vpn, that would be super cool. Or even a client server setup on
sipx itself that would allow remotes to connect securely in a sort of closed
network taking care of the NAT issues.

Just thinking out loud of course.

I have no interest in complicating it, I just welcome the input and ideas on
how this could be done because it's a fairly common requirement that we keep
being asked about. Doing phone work isn't what we do full time, but when we can
introduce someone to sipx, we love doing it because we have come to trust this
solution completely.
