If I'm not mistaken, Option 66 in DHCP tells the phones where the
provisioning files are located. Is it not the case that the Snom phones
just need to put their provisioning files in the same directory where
Polycom's are located, and Snom phones should find them there with the
Option 66 information? IF they don't work that way, it seems that is the
issue that needs to be resolved. The rest of the phones that auto
provision work that way - Nortel, LG, Linksys, etc.

Hi Tony,
yes definitely when using a different dhcp server something has to be done
manually. I belive this is the case of Polycom phones too.
For a windows server it is perfectly possible to configure snom phones for
auto provisioning. This is what I'm currently using. I don't know if it's
possible to archive the same result of dhcpd.conf choosing different options
for different mac. In case it's not possible, if someone want to use polycom
and snom on the same system ... in my opinion it's better to use a dhcpd on
sipxecs or in another linux machine.

I wont break anything. We can even add the same code for 0004f2 (polycom) to
be specific to a polycom, otherwise it takes the defaults. What is unclear
is how to implement it on anything other than a linux dhcp server.

We can certainly put it in the default dhcpd.conf file, but it becomes part
of the explanation of how/why snom provisioning doesnt work if they dont add
the code to their linux dhcp server somewhere else or "how" to implement it
on a windows dhcp server (is that even possible)?

But I think if we do what you're suggesting we'd break Polycom
provisioning... which is the most used phone on the system...

not afraid ... simply I'd like to see Snom phones to work out of the box
with a full contained (using it's own dhcpd) sipxecs system like Polycom do.

I'm perfectly aware that some people use another dhcp server, so I do.
But at least in some cases there would be no need to configure anything
with a text editor to have a snom phone work.
