Cyril, For very small installs this works fine. We just don't want people to think they can run 100 or more seat systems as virtual servers. They will get bobbles in voice with media services on the master server (voicemail, conf bridge, AA, paging, etc.).
We do it internally at eZuce not for hardware savings but for the ability to snapshot the server as we dog food new builds internally. We use Citrix Xen Server internally. Distributed proxy / registrars in virtuals is perfectly fine and we've (openUC customers) allowed this since 4.4.0 patch 9. We've tested 1 physical server and 4 virtuals out to 30K users. I believe the original question here however was around appliance type hardware that can be used for small systems and not virtual servers.
