This is not broken on 4.4.0 specifically. It was built like that from the
beginning. UI runs certificate validation script (check-cert.sh) before
accepting a certificate.

Since many users have experienced problems uploading certificates using UI,
with this certificate validation, yes, we are going to review the validation
script
