Do we need the LOOKUP line in /etc/devfsd.conf? I found that on my ppc64 boxes that line caused a whole lot of spurious modprobe calls (whole lot as in 30 or so at a go). Each of these passed '-C /etc/modules.devfs' which appears to not be a valid flag with the version of modprobe we are using (hence I get screens and screens of usage errors).
When I comment out this line, everything still seems to work ok.
