i maintain the debs, and just happened to inherit the rpms.
However, i run debian on all my systems, so that's where i build the rpms.
It is desirable for sis to be buildable everywhere.

in short, filing bugs w/ patches is the way to go, and target the 3.1/3.2
series - i don't think we'll be doing anymore 3.0.x stuff.
