Hi, i have the problem of slow negotiations between bcm5700 network interface cards and our switches. When booting with an installation diskette, pinging the install server fails and the installation script stops. At the command line i can repeat the ping after a couple of seconds and it works. I created a modified bootfloppy with a 30 second delay between start_network and ping_test and it worked. Looking at the code of start_network i found the parameter ETHER_SLEEP which would be the perfect solution, but sadly it's ignored when you have a static ip address in your local.cfg. Why should NIC and switch handshake faster just because we have static addresses instead of dhcp? I suggest to copy the code between ### BEGIN ether sleep ### and ### END ether sleep ### also into the "! -z $IPADDR" branch.
