Brian, (Haymore, not Finley)

There is a devfs issue and the fact that 2.6 differs from 2.4 in that
regard makes using a 2.6 kernel with systemimager more of a headache. I
tried it (out of desperation) and the differences in requirements for
handling modular kernels and such would make creating a initrd that
would support a 2.6 kernel a major undertaking. Anyone who disagrees
please jump in and correct me.

As Dan Frazier mentioned previously, building a x86_64 kernel based on
2.4.25 would be the best course to follow. Even then the initrd contents
and boel binaries would likely need to be compiled 64-bit. I say this
because it looked to me that the chroot process may have been hindered
by not only the 32-bit kernel but the differences in libs from the
ramdisk to the newly rsynced client. Many of the ramdisk and boel
binaries programs would not compile under a 64-bit environment without
some major changes. Even then, since I was unable to create a kernel
that would boot to the point where the ramdisk contents could be tested
I have no idea if the changes even worked.

Comments?
