If you have not yet resolved this issue, you may be interested in
looking at 3.7.3. It will soon be released as a development release, and
contains the stabilized UYOK (Use Your Own Kernel) code.  It will allow
you to use the kernel that is running on the golden client for the
auto-install process as well.

This UYOK code was specifically designed to handle situations where a
system uses drivers that are newer than what is shipped with
SystemImager.
