Assuming you are netbooting your machines, you can leave them to boot off the network and control whether they re-image or boot off the local HD via pxelinux. si_netbootmond could facilitate this. For more information you can look at the SystemImager service "systemimager-server-netbootmond" (which controls the starting and stopping of si_netbootmond) and the NET_BOOT_DEFAULT option in /etc/systemimager/systemimager.conf.
