I think pretty much noone has ever checked the forum.
I just say it because I find forums good for this sort of communication -
asking for and giving advice and news.
Not long ago I hardly used forums at all, but now I find things like the
palm tt forum
(http://discussion.brighthand.com/palmhandhelds/forumdisplay.php?s=cbf1734e8
1e9f6432e07b9535404be0d&forumid=151) invaluable.

For a start, a conversation like this would be under a thread topic, and
A) it would be clear that I was answering your question
B) I could browse the topic headings and ignore this one without reading any
of the messages in it
C) The function to search the forums for help - maybe I'm looking for a site
file for USNews, for example - would be on a button at the top of the
forum's page so I could activate it easily
D) I could subscribe to topics I'm interested in (either deliberately or
automatically by setting an option to auto subscribe to anything I reply to)
so that I get an email (like this one) only when a topic Im interested in is
discussed or added to, or I get a reply to my own posting or, if I want,
whenever there is any posting.

There are probably other advantages and disadvantages. I'm fairly new to
forums myself, but I have begun to find them invaluable sources of
information and advice.
In the couple of years I've subscribed to this mailing list I really haven't
seen much lively discussion on *how* to build site files - with specific
advice or improvement suggestions. I've seen some, but Id like to see more.
I suspect, but may well be wrong, that the more interactive nature of a
forum helps improve this sort of communication.

I don't know if the source forge forum has all these features, does anyone
know of any better free forum hosting sites?

Cheers
Chris
