>From the crackling tone of Jimi Hendrix's guitar during his infamous 'Star
>Spangled Banner,' to the mud-pits, mayhem and Metallica in '94, music and
>Woodstock have been inseperable concepts for four decades.
Down here in Westchester, it's easy to forget we've got easy access to such a
significant, nostalgic bit of music history. If you didn't make it to this
small Ulster County town in '69 or '94, there's still plenty of experience left
for the visiting music-lover.
Traveling time from lower Westchester will clock in around two hours in the
car, but myriad things to do in Woodstock will make the trip
worthwhile. Stocked with a sea of art galleries, inns, theaters and more,
Woodstock is the perfect short-distance getaway.
Lodging can be found at Back of the Moon or Woodstock Design Waterfront
Cottage, and will be sure to pamper guests with personal service befitting a
small town. For those who are looking to catch a glimpse at what gave the town
its reputation as a 'Colony of Arts,' the Woodstock Museum andWoodstock Artists
Association and Museum will answer any of your lingering questions about free
love and the far out.
For movie buffs, the town is also the site of the annual Woodstock Film
Festival, a theatrical celebration popular with A-listers as well as the
independent circuit. Each October, the town becomes a less-insufferable Cannes,
with headliners like Woody Harrelson and Kevin Smith.
Sound like a fun way to spend a three-day weekend so far? Vacation packages to
experience ‘the most famous small town in the world’ are also available using
an Experience Woodstock Card for $25.
Offers include discounts at the area’s restaurants, including Joshua’s
Café and Bread Alone, among other shops, venues and performing arts centers.
