My solution is to use SchubertIt's PDF Browser Plugin, which lets PDF's 
load *within* Firefox. It's an awful PDF viewer, but it passes for quick 
things... MORE IMPORTANTLY... I can THEN click on the little button on 
the left-hand side of the SchubertIt button bar. That opens the PDF 
directly in Skim.
