I had variously only the pdfsync file or both.  Both /should/ have been
up-to-date in the latter case.  (I mistook synctex as some kind of mode
of pdfsync.)

So it does, for me too.  Thank you!  That's the last bit that'll allow
me to keep my beloved vim for latex work :)

Ah, the curses of a case-insensitive file system.  It /seemed/  
alright here.

So it wouldn't be unheard of for Skim to silently do nothing in a  
dilemma
(instead of giving an error message)?  Not complaining, just getting  
used
to the tool.

I've been through quite a few PDF readers for OS X these last days.   
Skim
is definitely my favorite so far.  Extensive osascript capabilites  
count,
but an active user community (in form of this list) counts much more.
