Hi all, I monitored this discussion with some interest. It seems to me that if we're going to talk about fringe features, sorting based on color would be up there. There's not even a well-defined sorting order since it's a multidimensional space... ;-)
My suggestion, if I may, would be to simply make the order in the list arbitrarily reorderable. This certainly can't be in violation of the human interface guidelines, as dragging things around in a list is a very common idiom, and it seems it should satisfy those that want to put the comments in a certain order, too.
