Related comment, which perhaps addresses OPs request from another angle. I see that, although one can 'select' a note, or multiple notes in the Notes pane, this doesn't make them the 'active target' for font/color changes. I think the better (more expected) behavior here would be to apply font/color changes to all the notes selected in the pane (or at least to prompt the user, since it won't be a common case that they select multiple notes there, and then make color changes, so a dialog alert shouldn't be obtrusive to workflow). I'm sure you could batch-change these note properties with Applescript, but if I just want to quickly change the underlines in a few places from red to green, I'm probably not going to start writing code. Not, at least, if I want to finish the damn article I'm reading.
