It turns out that I had in Skim Preferences/General/Open files set to 'Fit'. With that setting I repeatedly got a wide display. When I switched it to 'Default' now I'm getting a tighter display. I'm very puzzled. Why would 'Fit' make a display page that is too wide and fit when it is 'Default'?
