Its is not really clear to me what isn’t working for you.With the default settings, the side panes should be restored when you reopen a document. Though that setting is only remembered for a single document that is open at a time, otherwise it would lead to inconsistencies in the layout. Perhaps this is what you are seeing? As for your “the text jumps around etc”, this its a bit too vague to know what his going on. What are you seeing exactly, and what do you expect, and when? I am also confused about your navigation using the Notes Pane.
